Vietnam to host ASEAN environmental ministers' meeting
Vietnam will host the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (AMME 13), the ASEAN+3 Environment Ministers’ Meeting (with partners from China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea) as well as several other related events in Hanoi from October 26 to 31, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE).
The implementation of regional environmental deals since the previous meeting in Thailand in 2012 is scheduled to be reviewed at the AMME 13. |
The AMME 13 will review the implementation of regional environmental deals since the previous meeting in Thailand in 2012; discuss new co-operation contents and propose solutions to enhance the ASEAN’s environmental co-operation in the future, especially for the period following 2015 when the ASEAN Community has been established.
The meeting will also discuss and adopt an ASEAN Declaration on Climate Change to prepare for the 21st United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21), a joint statement and outcomes of the AMME 13.
The AMME 13 expects to see the presence of environmental ministers from ASEAN member countries as well as Japan, China and the Republic of Korea, along with the ASEAN Secretariat and representatives of ASEAN’s partner organisations.
The related meetings include the 14th ASEAN+3 Environment Ministers’ Meeting, a high-level officials’ meeting to prepare for the AMME 13, the 11th Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Trans-boundary Haze Pollution (COP 11) and the 11th Meeting of the Committee on Implementing the ASEAN Agreement on Trans-boundary Haze Pollution (COM 11). The meetings are aimed at reviewing the implementation of programmes and projects in ten environmental co-operation categories within the ASEAN and ASEAN+3 co-operation framework.
In this transitional year of ASEAN co-operation, Vietnam and other ASEAN members have actively organised numerous activities for the bloc’s development and success in preparation for the ASEAN Community establishment by the end of the year.
The MONRE is the Vietnamese agency hosting the events’ organisation. It has established a steering committee and an organising board for the events with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Information and Communications.
