27th International Biology Olympiad opens in Vietnam
On July 17th, the 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) opened in Hanoi with the participation of 264 students from 71 countries and territories around the world.
The event, held by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Hanoi University of Pedagogy, will run until July 23rd.

The Olympiad provides opportunities to promote cooperation, experience sharing, the learning spirit and study of biology. It also paves the way for opening relationships and enhancing scientific capability of the biologist community in the world.
Four Vietnamese competitors are Vu Thi Chinh from the gifted school of Natural Science under Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Nguyen Minh Hai from Ha Long gifted school, the northern province of Quang Ninh; Nguyen Dac Hieu, pupil from Lam Son gifted school, Thanh Hoa province and Le Thi Hong Hoa from Hanoi Amsterdam gifted school.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha said this year’s Olympiad has the highest number of participants so far.
Mr. Nha said he wanted the competitors to capitalize on their strengths and learn from each other: “The IBO week ahead will be full of challenges, but be useful for students. It will be stressful, but meaningful for teachers.”
