Vietnam wins two gold medals at 48th International Chemistry Olympiad

According to the Department of Educational Testing and Accreditation under the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnamese students have bagged two gold medals and one silver medal at the 48th International Chemistry Olympiad in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi.

The gold medals were awarded to Dinh Quang Hieu from the High School for Gifted Students, University of Science under the Vietnam National University and Nguyen Khanh Duy from Lam Son High School for Gifted Students in Thanh Hoa province.

The silver medal went to Nguyen Thanh Trung from Le Hong Phong high school for gifted in Nam Dinh province. Trung becomes the third out of four Vietnamese students taking part in the Olympiad to win a medal.

The 48th International Chemistry Olympiad took place from July 23rd to August 1st, drawing the participation of 280 contestants from 75 countries and territories around the world.

Hieu and Duy helped Vietnam rank in third place alongside Thailand, Singapore, India and Iran based on the number of gold medals won by each country at the Olympiad.

China ranked first with four golds, followed by Russia, Romania, South Korea and Taiwan, with three per country.
