National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion receives international award

The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) has received the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Award for Developing Countries for its contribution to the development of national blood transfusion.

At the 34th International Congress of the ISBT in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on behalf of the institute, Labour Hero, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tri, Director of the institute, was honoured to received the award.

Mr. Tri said that the award recognised medical results and efforts of the country’s blood transfusion sector and marks a new milestone of NIHBT’s development in the region and on the international level.

NIHBT is the third medical facility to receive the award, following the Sri Lanka National Blood Transfusion Service in 2012 and the Myanmar National Blood Transfusion Centre in 2014.

ISBT Excutitve Director Judith Chapman recognized progress of the NIHBT in particular and Vietnam in general in the development of blood transfusion service.

She said that ISBT expects Vietnam to promote blood transfusion services through training courses, which will be organised in Vietnam early in 2017.
