Vietnam again wins first prize in letter-writing competition

A ninth-grader Vietnamese student won the First Prize in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition for Young People, marking two continuous First Prize for Vietnam,  said the Ministry of  Information and Communications yesterday.

Ninth-grader Nguyen Thi Thu Trang in Nguyen Trai Junior High School in the northern province of Hai Duong excellently beats other students in the world to win the first prize of the competition.

She is the second Vietnamese student to win the first prize of the competition. Before, seventh-grader Ho Thi Hieu Hien from Tay Son Secondary School in the central city of Da Nang’s Hai Chau District, was the first Vietnamese student to win the prize after 20 years  the country has taken part in the competition.

 

From the competition theme “Write a letter for yourself when you reach the age of 45”,  Thu Trang imagined herself as the three-year-old Syrian boy who was drowned off the coast of Turkey to write a letter to himself when he reaches 45.

 

The letter was highly appreciated by the organizers of the competition. Her letter, described by Aylan Kurdi: “was written from heaven” or her dream of a world without violence or discrimination not only touches others’ hearts but also impressed readers.

 

Currently, the Ministry and the General Post Office and relevant agencies are helping Trang go to the award ceremony held in Turkey on October 1.

 

The annual International Letter Writing Competition for Young People has been run at the national and international levels since 1971, drawing in millions of young people up to the age of 15 from all over the world.
