The corporations mentioned include Vietnam Electricity, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Corporation, Vietnam National Chemical Group, Vietnam Steel Corporation, Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group and Vietnam Paper Corporation.
After a meeting between Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and the leaders of these corporations, they were found not to be doing enough to protect the environment.
The majority of the projects on the list involve power generation and mining, such as the Vinh Tan 2 and 4 Thermal Power Plants in the province of Binh Thuan and the Nhan Co alumina project in the province of Dak Nong.
The minister called for special supervision of projects that posed a high risk to the environment and urged relevant agencies to review technologies in these industries to fine-tune environmental standards.
He also asked company leaders to improve the technologies used in existing projects and to install environmental monitoring systems to minimise their impact on the environment.
Meanwhile investors in coal-fired projects were required not to discharge coal ash into the environment and to quickly complete the safe disposal of remaining coal ash.
