Three Vietnamese teams get Facebook sponsor package
The three best teams won sponsor packages from Facebook (FbStart) worth 80,000 USD each at the TOPICA AI Edtech Asia Hackathon 2017, the largest artificial intelligence contest in Southeast Asia.

The five-member team, “Nguyen Hien,” won first place for its application on smart English learning for kids.
The second prize went to team “Techaholic” from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The group won the prize for its idea of evaluating lesson quality based on students’ feelings using face recognition intelligence and technology.
The third prize went to team "InfoRin" for their idea of suggesting favourite lessons through students’ emotions.
Besides the FbStart packages, the three teams also received additional awards depending on where their position.
In addition to the three main awards, the organisers also awarded the best artificial intelligence application to team “The Hungers” for its idea of digitising books and newspapers in Vietnamese and the best edtech software to BKSmart team.
TOPICA AI Edtech Asia Hackathon 2017 was organised by TOPICA AI Edtech Lab in collaboration with Up Coworking Space and Hanoi Youth Union. The event was sponsored by the world’s tech giants, such as Facebook, Google, IBM and Amazon.
The contest was held in Hanoi from May 19 to 21. This is the second year the contest has been held in Vietnam.
This year’s contest attracted 18 teams from all over the country. Each team consists of 2-5 members. The teams have 48 hours to make innovative and unique tech products.
Hackathon competitions world over are seen as one of secrets of tech giants such as Google and Facebook to develop and maintain strong growth. The “Like” button and Facebook Message function are products of hackathon contests.
