Over VND 1,000 billion for science and technology in the period 2016-2018

ABO – On July 27, in Tien Giang province, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in collaboration with the Tien Ging provincial People's Committee held the Mekong Delta 2018's hand-over conference of the Science and Technology Committee.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, in the period 2016-2018, the Ministry of Science and Technology has supported the Mekong Delta region to implement 91 tasks, with a total cost of over VND 1.177 billion.

In particular, funding from the central budget of science and technology supported over VND 600 billion, the local counterpart fund was over VND 576 billion.

This fund mainly invested in promoting the development of key national, regional and local products in the value chain such as Tra fish, shrimp, coconut, fruit trees.

The technologies created a strong impact, spillover in production, attracting many large enterprises to participate.

For the provinces, cities, 2016-2018, the Department of Science and Technology of the localities in the Mekong Delta has deployed 631 subjects, projects in the fields of natural sciences, agricultural sciences, medical science, etc...

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh said that the Mekong Delta has a lot of potential for development. If applying science and technology for practical application, the speed of development will be very fast. However, it is necessary to need the cooperation of many branches and levels to put the science and technology into practice.

For the recommendations of the localities in the region, Minister of Science and Technology will coordinate with specialized ministries or sectors to propose or deal with the Government in the coming time.
