Vietnam to host ITU Telecom World 2020
ABO/NDO – The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom World 2020 will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in September 2020, announced the Ministry of Information and Communications on September 17.

The annual event is the world’s largest of its kind on telecommunications and information technology (IT), with the participation of high-ranking officials, industry leaders and media agencies worldwide.
Themed “Innovating together: connectivity that matters”, the ITU Telecom World 2019 took place in Budapest, Hungary, from September 9-12, drawing more than 5,000 participants from over 100 countries and territories.
Speaking at this year’s expo, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung laid stress on the significance of the ICT in the digital world, and said all countries need to join hands to make changes in technologies as well as outline strategies to create new values.
The minister affirmed that Vietnam is striving to shift telecommunications to ICT infrastructure, with a national digital transformation strategy that includes the engagement of the Government, businesses and society.
Statistics of the General Statistics Office showed Vietnam’s telecommunications revenue reached VND184 trillion (US$7.91 billion) in the first half of 2019, up 7.13% year on year.
As of June, the number of telephone subscribers nationwide is estimated to stand at 138 million, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%. Of which, there are 133.9 million mobile phone subscribers and 13.7 million fixed broadband internet subscribers.
