Propagating people to pay via bank for public services

ABO – On November 7, the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee held a conference to implement the plan on the implementation of the scheme of bank payment for public services and social security payment in the locality. By the end of August, 2019, the province had 240 ATMs and 737 transaction points accepting payment via POS, nearly 946,000 cards were issued by credit institutions in the area; the number of POS payment transactions was only 136,795 items (equivalent to more than 894 billion VND).

In the province, there are 22/28 commercial banks paying some form of public services and paying social security via banks. Payment activities for public services and payment of social security programs in the province mainly focus on electricity collection services (reaching 684,510 items, with over 3,731 billion VND), tax collection (reaching 231,426 items, with more than 5,277 billion VND, paid for social security (reaching 69,699 items, with more than 1,250 billion VND); water collection and tuition services arisen but the rate is not high; there has been no payment for hospital fees.

According to the Plan 179 of the Provincial People's Committee on the implementation of the scheme, the province strives that by 2020, about 80% of tax payment transactions will be made via banks; 100% of Tien Giang State Treasury and district, city and town State Treasuries have equipment to accept bank cards for the collection of state budget; 70% of electricity and 50% of households in the province make payment via bank; 100% of universities and colleges in the area accept bank fees payment and 80% of students at universities and colleges pay tuition fees via banks; 50% of hospitals in the province accept bank fees and 20% of social security payments are made via banks.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Le Van Nghia emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen the propaganda on the meaning and benefits of bank payment for public services and payment of social security programs, contributing to persuading people to abandon the habit of using cash in payment of public services provided by the state.

At the same time, the relevant sectors continue to improve and synchronize the legal corridor in the field of electronic payment; attaching importance to ensuring the security and safety of payment activities; there is coordination between the bank and the relevant units to ensure security, etc...
