Vietnam ranks third at ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest

ABO/NDO- Vietnam and China were announced co-winners of the third prize at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) which took place in Cambodia on August 27.

The grand prix of the contest went to Japan, followed by Hong Kong (China).

Held at the Morodok Techo National Stadium Indoor Sport Centre in Phnom Penh, the contest attracted the participation of 14 university teams from more than 10 countries.

Addressing at the event, Cambodia's Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra said the international event provided an opportunity for university students to demonstrate their technological capabilities, share experiences, and show the cultural diversity of their countries.

He stated that this is the first time Cambodia has hosted an event of this kind, illustrating the country’s progress on robot technology.

According to Pang Chamnan, Robocon Cambodia director of National Television of Cambodia (TVK), which co-organised the event with ABU, this year’s event featured two themes: ‘Casting flowers over Angkor Wat’ and ‘Throwing rings into poles’.

The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) is an Asian-Oceanian college robot competition. It was founded in 2002 by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.

The contest aims to create friendship among young people with similar interests while helping to advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region.

Also at the event, Cambodia handed over the ABU Robocon flag to Vietnam – the host of the contest in 2024.
