Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve was established in 2000 with a total existence area of 107 ha. According to the proposed expansion, there is two phases. The first phase has an area of 120 hectares with a capital of over 143 billion VND, the seconde phase has an area of 124 hectares with a capital of 132 billion VND.
These years, Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve reassembled 70 plant species, 85 species of native animals, enticing about 12,000 rare birds and animals.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the implementation of a project to expand and keep the stable acassia aneura forest area of the buffer zone has a very important role for the conservation of Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve.
To maintain the characteristics of the acid-flooded alum soil of the Plain of Reeds, to protect the native animals, to create points of interest and research for later generations, the provincial Party Committee, the provincial People's Committee Project to expand the ecological reserve with the scale of 250 hectares (north about 73 hectares, 60 hectares in the south, 117 hectares in the east).
