He also called on the VLA to promote legal advice and legal aid services for the poor and policy beneficiaries, as well as participating in protecting human rights and legitimate interests of both the State and citizens.

President Sang said the circle of lawyers is one of the indispensable forces that help safeguard justice and social equality.

A professional organisation of those working in the legal sector throughout the country, over the past five years the VLA has been sticking closely to the Party and Government’s guidelines and achieved many successes in law formulation and legal advice.

In the past several months when national maritime sovereignty was violated, the VLA proactively worked with other organisation to held legal forums to affirm Vietnam’s unassailable sovereignty over its waters and islands.

During its 2009-2014 tenure, the VLA also succeeded in assuming the chairmanship of the ASEAN Law Association, protecting the rights of Agent Orange victims and making responsible contributions to many other legal, social and charitable activities.

Praising the achievements of the VLA, President Sang urged the association to enthusiastically join the fight against corruption, bureaucracy and abuse of power, to make the Party and State cleaner and stronger.
