Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the point while chairing a meeting of the National Steering Committee on the Prevention and Control of Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Fake Commodities (or Steering Committee 389) in Hanoi on October 24.

Deputy PM Phuc, who heads Steering Committee 389, noted that instances of smuggling, trade fraud and fake goods would grow increasingly complicated in the run up to the lunar New Year festival.

He urged agencies and localities to consider the combat against smuggling and trade fraud among top priorities and continue working out specific measures to deal with the issue.

The deputy PM asked ministries and functional agencies to establish special measures for the prevention and combat against counterfeit fertilizer trading in northern regions; tobacco smuggling in southwestern border areas; drugs trafficking; petrol, oil, coal and mineral smuggling by sea; and trade in counterfeit commodities on domestic market.
