NA continues to discuss revised laws

NA deputies spent November 12 hearing a report on the draft Law on Labour Safety and Hygiene and discussing draft amendments to Laws on Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and Military Service.

The report stated that the draft law on labour safety and hygiene was built in accordance with the 2013 Constitution to legalise the Party’s directions and targets on national construction, ensuring safety and health for all workers, especially in fields with a high risk of accidents and adverse health effects. The draft law focused on activities to prevent occupational accidents and health consequence, improve working environment and safety cultre in production, and enhance the State’s management over the related matters.

Deputy Nguyen Thi Bach Ngan from Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and others said that several medium- and small-sized entrepreneurs have not yet effectively implemented regulations on labour safety and hygiene, as well as insurance policies to employees facing occupational hazzards. They also asked for better communication about health insurance benefits to the public.

Discussing draft amendments to Laws on Vietnam Fatherland Front, many lawmakers agreed with regulations on operation of VFF branches in residential areas, which help local residents raise their ideas and aspirations and address numerous matters in the areas.

Deputy Ma Thi Thuy from Tuyen Quang province said that regulations on oversight of the VFF should be clarified in the draft law.

Regarding the duration of military service in the revised Law on Military Service, deputy Pham Hong Huong from Hai Duong province agreed with the 24 month duration as 18 months are not enough for soldiers to be fully educated and trained to meet requirements.

Meanwhile, deputy Do Ba Thuyen from Lam Dong province suggested a one-year service terms, enabling all citizens to join military service.

Several deputies asked for equality in implementing military service through narrowing exemptions and priorities.
