The festival was held to mark the 84th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) (November 18, 1930-2014).

Talking to An Thai villagers, President Sang emphasised the importance of unity in both national defence and construction, to which the VFF, the nation’s largest social organisation, has significantly contributed since its foundation on November 18, 1930 as the Vietnam National Reunification Front.

President Truong Tan Sang asked the locals to continue to uphold the national tradition of solidarity in turning their homeland into a prosperous and modern village.

An Thai is one of the six hamlets in An My commune with over 2,200 households of mostly farmers. The hamlet has been recognised as a model of great unity in socio-economic development.

Nearly 80% of local households have met the criteria to be recognised as a ‘cultural family’. During 2013-14 period, the village has completed the rearrangement of rice fields to create large-scale fields, paving the way to the application of scientific and technical advances, thus raising the average rice yield to 13.5 tonnes per ha and annual per capita income to VND25.2 million (US$1,200).

On the occasion, President Truong Tan Sang offered incense and planted trees at the Cat Tuong historical relic site.
