70th anniversary of People's Army celebrated nationwide

A string of activities have been held in localities across the country to mark the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944 - 2014) and the 25th celebration of the Whole People’s Defence Festival Day (December 22, 1989 – 2014).

In Hanoi, the municipal People's Committee, the municipal Party's Committee and the Fatherland Front jointly organised a get-together on December 16 for more than 400 retired generals and senior military officers from Hanoi.

The meeting saw the presence of former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu; Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi Party's Committee Pham Quang Nghi; Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Thao; Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army Lieut. Gen. Mai Quang Phan among others.

Secretary of Hanoi's Party Committee Nghi appreciated contributions of the Vietnam People's Army to the nation in the past 70 years, saying that the glorious victories and achievements of Hanoi were attributed to the contributions of the Vietnam People's Army.

The Hanoi Party's Committee and people are always grateful to generals, officers and soldiers, the elite of the People's Army and Vietnamese people, demonstrating the bravery and talent of the armed forces, he noted.

On the same day, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan visited some former leaders of the Party, State and Defence Ministry and families of late generals in Hanoi.

The VFF leader visited Senior Lieutenant General Le Kha Phieu, General Le Duc Anh, General Pham Van Tra and families of late generals Vo Nguyen Giap, Van Tien Dung, Hoang Van Thai, Le Trong Tan and others.

Also in Hanoi, the Vietnam Military History Museum opened an exhibition entitled 'Heroic Army - Glorious Tradition' with the presence of Politburo member and Minister of Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh.

The exhibition is showcasing more than 300 images, documents and objects, featuring the founding, fighting spirit and maturity of the Vietnam People's Army during the past 70 years as well as their outstanding feats in the two resistance wars and the presence.

Other provinces of Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh, Thua Thien - Hue, Tuyen Quang, and Hau Giang also held meetings for soldiers, military officers, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and Heroes of the People's Armed Forces.
