Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong who is also head of the Central Anti-corruption Steering Committee made the request during a working session with the SPC in Hanoi on March 20.

Lauding recent efforts and achievement made by the SPC, General Secretary Trong asked the SPC to pay more attention to promoting its core role as the centre of judicial activities and the judicial body, correcting mistakes in some cases, and ensuring human rights as well as social justice and fairness.

It should also focus on personnel training in order to improve the quality of court staff at all levels, he noted.

The Party chief also proposed the court improve the capacity of the judicial system, regularly reminding personnel to strictly follow protocol in their work while abiding by current laws and regulations.

According to a report at the meeting, during the 2011-2014 period, courts at all levels handled 1,382,352 out of 1,411,185 accepted cases, or 98%.

The courts also organised nearly 32,000 mobile trials in localities — many major cases were promptly brought to trial, garnering the support of the public.
