Continuing the Great Spring Victory

Today, with a great pride, the whole country is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification. The General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1975, under the leadership of the Party, completely ended the resistance war against the US invasion for national salvation, marking a proud milestone in the nation’s history and opening a new era for the country: the era of independence, reunification and advancing socialism.

The Great Spring Victory has become a symbol of revolutionary heroism, patriotism and the bravery of Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era. It was also an event of great international significance.

These days, we are proud of Vietnam’s heroic people, the great President Ho Chi Minh, and the Communist Party of Vietnam, leading the country through uncountable difficulties. The independent country, freedom, unity, and prosperity of today are the result of a century of struggle and sacrifice, from thirty years of resistance against foreign invasion, and forty years of unanimity to build and protect the sacred fatherland.

We are sincerely grateful to our national hero and impress on our memory the boundless efforts of our beloved Uncle Ho and the Party. We are forever grateful to the boundless sacrifice and great dedication of the revolutionary generations of cadres, Party members, fellows and soldiers throughout the country who gave their life for national independence, freedom and sovereignty. We are also thankful to our friends worldwide and overseas Vietnamese who have supported Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and construction.

Forty years since the Spring Victory, we have made great achievements through 30 years of renovation. Potentials in all aspects of development have been brought out and the country’s reputation and position have been heightened − however, many difficulties and challenges still lie ahead. The situations in the world, the region and the East Sea are complicated and may adversely impact our country. In this context, the task of building and defending the country, the entire Party, people and army is very important, with advantages and disadvantages, opportunities and challenges.

More than ever, the Great Spring Victory of 1975 is a source of great support for the revolutionary spirit and national pride of the entire Party, people and armed forces. In the spirit of the April 30 victory, the 125th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, and the year of Party congress at all level towards 12th Congress of the Party, let's join together for national independence and socialism, strengthening the Party, and building a strong political system.

Vietnamshould promote the nation and socialist democracy, comprehensively and synchronously accelerate the renovation cause with rapid and sustainable economic development, building the foundation for a modern industrialised country. People’s lives have been improved; independence sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the country are safeguarded; the Party, the State, the people and socialism are protected. Peace and stability are being preserved for the country's development while improving Vietnam’s standing in the region and around the world.

The country will continue the proud history of the country with the spirit of the great spring victory!
