In the morning session, Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thai Binh presented the government’s proposal on establishing four additional towns, one district and one city, including Duyen Hai town and its wards in Tra Vinh province; Long My town and its four wards (Hau Giang province); Phu Rieng district of Binh Phuoc province; and establishing Gia Rai town and its three wards in Bac Lieu province.

For Thai Nguyen province alone, the government set up projects for the establishment of Pho Yen town and its four wards, Luong Son ward under Song Cong town, and Song Cong city.

Through discussions, NA deputies agreed with the proposal from the government and said that the administrative boundary adjustment was reasonable as those were fast growing regions, requiring expansion in area.

Endorsing the need to adopt the above proposal, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung emphasised that the aforementioned proposal reflected the desire of local people, creating favourable conditions for the regions to further develop and ensure national defence and security.

He urged local authorities to be active and strengthen resources for newly-established administrative units to ensure smooth and effective operations.

The NA leader also asked the government to submit to the NA Standing Committee the new criteria for administrative boundary adjustment for consideration, creating a clear and scientific basis for the work in the future. After this adjustment, there would be no additional administrative boundary adjustment projects until a new set of criteria for the work was finalised, he stressed.

In the afternoon session, the NA Standing Committee approved solutions on the apparatus of the Supreme People’s Procuracy and its aide personnel.

During the sitting between May 11 and 14, the NA Standing Committee debated several laws for the NA’s next session and the government’s reports regarding socio-economic and budgetary performances in 2014 and early 2015. These laws will be submitted to the upcoming NA’s 9th session for more comments.
