Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh’s report said that in the past six months, the economy saw better results compared to the same period last year. The macro-economy was stable while the consumer price index (CPI) rose slightly. The second quarter’s gross domestic product (GDP) was higher than the first quarter’s, and GDP growth in the first half of the year reached 6.28%, the highest in the past five years.
Beside positive results in the growth of industry, credit, social investment capital, foreign direct investment, import, export, business development, as well as ensured social welfare, political security, social order and safety, the report also stated difficulties and challenges, particularly low year-on-year growth in agriculture and fisheries, decreased exports from local businesses and limited poverty reduction.
During discussions, PM Dung asked leaders from ministries, agencies and localities to study the report and the implementation of the Government’s directions in order to contribute ideas and seek measures to better tasks in the second half of the year and more effectively implement set targets.
He also urged the leaders to seek measures to overcome shortcomings in the implementation, especially in realising the Government’s resolution on improving the business environment and elevating national competitiveness.
In addition, the government leader requested the leaders contribute ideas to reports related to administrative reforms, complaint and denunciation settlement, corruption prevention and tourism development.
