Emulation movements generate motivation for national construction and defence, says President

Since President Ho Chi Minh launched the appeal in 1948, in the fight against poverty, illiteracy and foreign invaders, Vietnam’s patriotic emulation movements have generated strong motivation for the entire Party, people and army to realise the national struggle for independence and unification as well as to construct and develop the country.

President Truong Tan Sang made the statement while addressing the sixth Ho Chi Minh City patriotic emulation movement congress on July 4.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Lim Ngan, Secretary of the HCM Municipal Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, and Chief Judge of the Supreme People's Court Truong Hoa Binh.

It was also attended by war veterans, Vietnamese heroic mothers, representatives of ethnic groups and religious groups in the city as well as over 660 exemplary people in the locality who have made outstanding contributions in all fields of life.

The event was chosen as an example congress of its kind for cities and provinces in the central, central highlands and the south region to follow.

President Sang highly appreciated and congratulated outcomes of the city’s emulation movements as well as the achievements made by the city authorities and people in recent years.

He asked the city Party Committee, authorities, sectors ad organisation to thoroughly grasp President Ho’s ideology and Politburo’s directions on emulation and rewards work in order to attract more positive participation of Party members, officers, public servants, workers and soldiers into the movements.

The city administration should pay attention to honouring outstanding workers, farmers, intellectuals, artists, businessmen and soldiers, he requested.

Leaders and managers should take the lead in the movements, setting themselves as examples for their employees to follow, he added.

On the occasion, 26 collectives were also presented with the flags for their excellent contributions to the success of the city’s movements.
