President Truong Tan Sang has reiterated that the Party, State and people always keep in mind the contributions and sacrifices of army forces in protecting national independence and sovereignty.

The State leader made the affirmation at a meeting in Hanoi on July 22 with the liaison board of the B3 (Central Highlands) battlefield, Army Corps No.3 on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

Praising feats of arm made by officers and soldiers of the army corps, President Sang expressed his hope that with their experiences in the battlefield in wartime, as well as in social work during peacetime, the war veterans would contribute more opinions to the national construction and development.

He shared the delegate’s concerns about challenges facing the country, and discussed with them about lessons learnt from the country’ history of construction and defence.

Grouping elite troops of the Central Highlands battlefield, army corps No.3’s officers and soldiers stood side by side with ethic groups in fighting against the enemy and contributed to the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign that liberated the south and reunified the entire country. More than 30,000 members of the army corps laid down their lives in the battlefield.

During peacetime, the army corps has enthusiastically participated in consolidating the authorities and developing the economy in the Central Highlands region, making it a strategic zone with a strong defence and rich cultural identity.

The war veterans also support each other and have established themselves as examples for younger generations.
