In his speech at the event, the State leader applauded the GDL for its significant contributions to the Vietnamese revolution during its 65-year history.
He noted that the department’s role is very important today as a key part of the army, especially as there are uncertainties in the region and the world and territorial tensions in the East Sea.
The president urged the GDL leaders to build strong logistics units, comprised of capable and responsible officers who are dedicated to serving the army and the people, to meet the requirements of national construction and defence in the new period.
He also asked the general department to work towards lean organisation, utilise infrastructure, weapons and equipment effectively, and prevent occurrence of corruption and waste.
The GDL under the Ministry of Defence was established in 1950 as the General Department of Supplies following a decree by President Ho Chi Minh.
Since its formation, it has made significant contributions to national construction and defence, including resounding victories over the French and Americans, the wars to defend the northern and southwestern borders, and the naval force stationed on the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.
The GDC has been awarded the Gold Star Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order and many other prestigious accolades.
