The ceremony was held jointly by the Vietnam Wartime Youth Volunteers’ Association Central Committee and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang spoke highly of the sacrifices and contributions of youth volunteers to national defence and construction.

Since it was formed by late President Ho Chi Minh 65 years ago, the Volunteer Youth Force has promoted revolutionary heroism, overcome all difficulties and hardships to successfully complete assigned task, and greatly contributed to the victory of the resistance war for national salvation and national reunification, the President noted.

He also hailed the Vietnam Wartime Youth Volunteers’ Association’s (VWYVA) important role in educating and encouraging today’s youth to uphold the spirit of volunteerism and pioneer national socio-economic development, particularly in remote, isolated areas and border localities.

In his speech at the ceremony, Chairman of the VWYVA Nguyen Anh Lien stated that the first youth volunteer team was established on July 15, 1950 in Hong Mountain, Dai Tu district in the northern province of Thai Nguyen.

Two months later, the young volunteers were sent to the battle and fought together with the army and made the first victory in the Border Campaign. Since then, the force were expanded and took part in the glorious victories of the nation, including the Dien Bien Phu victory and the Great Victory in the spring of 1975.

Also at the ceremony, State President Truong Tan Sang presented the 'Hero of People's Armed Forces' title to the Young Volunteers Team 36 as the Party and State’s recognition for their achievements in national construction and defense.
