PM urges favourable conditions for young scientists' creativity

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged relevant ministries and agencies to create favourable conditions for scientists in general and young scientists in particular to promote their creativity for the sake of national construction and defence.

 

The PM made the statement during a meeting in Hanoi on September 11 with the participation of 70 outstanding young scientists in various fields across the nation. The event was held for the first time by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).

 

The meeting aims to acknowledge the contributions of talented young scientists for national development in general and science and technology in particular, as well as to encourage young scientists to continue in developing their passion, spirit of initiative and creativity in research and science and technology in production and daily life.

At the meeting, PM Dung and MOST leaders listened to the thoughts and aspirations of the young scientists in relation to their perceived difficulties and obstacles, as well as their proposals to enhance contributions to the country's science and technology sector and in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

PM Dung praised the responsible and practical opinions and proposals of young scientists present at the meeting, saying that throughout the country’s history, the State has always appreciated and recognised the important role of young talents. Therefore, the Party and State have issued a range of policies and measures to solve difficulties and create optimal conditions for scientists, especially young scientists to generate practical contributions to the country.

 

He affirmed that over the past, science and technology as well as young scientists via scientific activity have made worthy contributions to the national renovation, construction and defence, in addition to raising Vietnam's position on the international arena.

 

"On behalf of the Government I appreciate young scientists for your achievements. At the same time I always want you, using your talents, enthusiasm and passion to pursue research and contribute further to the country", the PM said.

 

The leader also asked the MOST, localities, and research institutions to develop more policies, solutions, and favourable conditions for scientists, especially young scientists, with a focus on the effective implementation of policies associated with human resources development, business start-up, and encouraging the development of scientific and technological enterprises.

 

At the meeting, PM Dung also agreed to provide funding for the production of vision aid devices for the blind, developed by Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.

 

The non-for-profit product is well known for its name ‘magic eyes’, a type of glasses can generate vibration when users are about to hit barriers, with an aim of improving the daily life and activities of blind people. According to the inventor, the product costs about VND2 million (US$88) to produce and has been highly praised internationally. It has been in small-scale production to distribute free of charge for blind people in difficult circumstances, along with the support of organisations and individuals.

 

Later the same day, MOST leaders and young scientists made a field trip to Hoa Lac High-tech Park, the Hi-tech Business Incubation Centre, and Vietnam’s first software village run by FPT (F-Ville) at the hi-tech park.
