The leader was speaking at a national conference in Hanoi on October 17 to honour 260 outstanding presidents of local VFF committees nationwide during the 2010-2015 period.

Over the last five years, local VFF presidents have effectively organised and co-ordinated implementation of mobilisation campaigns and patriotic emulation movements to consolidate the national unity bloc. They actively advise Party committees in enhancing the effectiveness of co-operation with the governments and related organisations, generating an effective combination between State management tasks with content of patriotic emulation movements.

They often gather ideas, requirements and the legitimate aspirations of the people to reflect and make recommendations to competent authorities, while implementing democracy legislation at the grassroots level, as well participating in Party building and social administration and criticism.

President Sang reviewed the history of the VFF during the national construction and defence, saying that the Front's campaigns in recent years along with the movements of building modern rural areas, civilised urban areas and sustainable poverty reduction have stimulated creativity, internal resources, and unions from each family and community, thereby contributing greatly to the successful implementation of socio-economic development tasks, national defence, and security and foreign relations.

Praising achievements by VFF staff at the grassroots as well as 260 local VFF presidents in particular, President Sang stressed that amidst difficulties VFF staff with full of enthusiasm, creativity, and sacrifice have listened to the people’s needs and proposed to local Party committees and governments to help preserve and promote national cultural identity, enhance environmental protection, and develop a strong political system at the grassroot level, as well as promoting democracy and improving the people's spiritual and material life.

He said he believes that from the conference the typical models by local VFF presidents will be replicated throughout the country to further uphold the pervasive spirit of national solidarity and patriotic emulation movements in the society, becoming an important impetus to the successful implementation of national socio-economic development tasks.

President of the VFF Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan underlined the important role of VFF presidents at the local level asking the VFF and its chapters to further improve efficiency of their activities in the time ahead, concentrating on strengthening the great national unity and diversifying approaches to carry out movements to match with the real situation in each locality, he said.

They were also asked to continue to fulfill their role as representatives and protectors of the people’s
legitimate rights and interests, participating in building a strong and trusted Party and State, as well as effectively implementing social monitoring and criticism activities and assessment of people's satisfaction with operations of the governmental apparatus at the local level.
