President attends celebrations of 75th anniversary of Southern Uprising
President Truong Tan Sang attended a series of activities held in Long An province on November 21 to mark the 75th anniversary of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia (Southern Uprising, November 23, 1940-2015).

The President inaugurated a monument dedicated to soldiers of the Southern Uprising at the Duc Hoa relic site in Duc Hoa district where the French colonialists on July 7-9, 1941 shot 11 soldiers participating in the uprising.
President Sang also attended a ceremony to commemorate the Southern Uprising held by Long An authorities in Duc Hoa district on the same day.
Addressing the ceremony, the President stated that the Southern Uprising was the continuation and promotion of the patriotic tradition of the Vietnamese nation and people. The sacrifice of the people and soldiers during the uprising contributed to creating the premise for the August Revolution in 1945 and the 30-year resistance war for the liberation and unification of the nation in 1975, he noted.
On the occasion, Long An province held a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Duc Lap battle victory during the resistance war against the US on November 20, 1965. With three attacks on the enemy, Vietnamese soldiers killed three battalions, five companies and six platoons with a total 1,800 enemies, contributing to destroying the defence plans of the enemy in key positions around Saigon.
Reviewing the Duc Lap battle, President Sang emphasised that the victory on November 20, 1965 was one of the most resounding victories of the people and army of Long An province in the resistance war against the US, contributing significantly to the victory of the resistance war.
