Speaking at the annual briefing, Politburo member Huynh, who was recently assigned the role of permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat said that in recent years, the press has faced numerous difficulties, especially competitiveness of information. Due to domestic and international impacts, the decline in revenues has also created more difficulties for press agencies, affecting not only their facilities but also the lives of officials and reporters.

In such context, the press community has promoted solidarity and encouragement to overcome difficulties to successfully fulfill the 2015 tasks. In particular, the press made important contribution to the success of the 12th National Party Congress last month.

He praised efforts by journalists who have highlighted role models in actively fighting against corruption, wastefulness and arrogance, making a better society and meeting the requirements of national development and international integration.

He urged the press to stand at the forefront to continue building a Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity to meet the expectations of the people.

Also at the meeting, newly-appointed head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Education and Information Vo Van Thuong asked for positive collaboration from the press to accelerate implementation of the 12th National Party Congress’s resolutions and the five-year national socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020.

He called for further reform in media agencies, and higher quality in communication work, saying that the agencies need to promote their political and social responsibility and the professional ethics of journalism.

On behalf of the government, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam also appreciated press agencies for their close work with and timely reflection of accurate information on the government’s operations, as well as for their effective collection of public opinion for the government during policy making and policy implementation.
