Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development surveys drought and salinity situation in Tien Giang
On March 6, the delegation of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), led by Minister of MARD Cao Duc Phat, surveyed drought and salinity situation and damages influenced on agricultural production and people’s life in the east area of Tien Giang province.
Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Danh, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Le Van Huong and leaders of departments and agencies and districts, town attend this survey.

The delegation came to inspect the assignment of preventing and combating drought, water supply situation as well as rice areas affected by drought and salinity in Freshening Go Cong project. In addition, the delegation also inspected the situation erosion of Go Cong sea dyke in Go Cong Ding district.
Report to the delegation, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Le Van Huong said that the province actively monitored the salinity in river to get water in various forms, installing temporary pumping stations, supporting districts, town in Freshening Go Cong area buying pumps to fight against drought for saving rice, etc…
About clean water, until now, Tien Giang actively transferred water source of Dong Tam B.O.O to supply 42,424 households in Go Cong Dong district, Go Cong Tay district, Go Cong town, opening 61 free public spaucets to serve nearly 7,000 households for free.
Particularly, Tan Phu Dong district conducted 20 free public spaucets and promoted the transport of fresh water by barge in order not to lack of water.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Cao Duc Phat highly appreciated the province’s active working to fight with drought and salinity to limit the damage of people. According to the Minister, this year, the country in general and Tien Giang in particular is facing fiercely drought, salt and expected to be more fierce in this March.
Therefore, Minister suggested that Tien Giang needs to implement more drasticall measures to save rice, to supply water for people. For the coming seasons, Tien Giang needs to focus on restructuring the plant and crop structure coming with technical solutions, determining the time of sowing and seed structure in accodance with the condition of each region.
For Tan Phu Dong district’s water supply, Minister supported the recommendation to the Prime Minister for shortening investment procedures of Dong Tam B.O.O work through this islet district.
In addition, Minister noted the province’s suggestion to support the investment of Xuan Hoa sewer pump station electrical, investing in upgrading Go Cong sea dyke, irrigating fresh water from the west of Cho Gao canal to Freshening area, completing Freshening Go Cong project, etc…
