My Tho city of Tien Giang recognized as the urban of grade I
On April 26, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People’s Council, the Provincial People’s Committee held a solemn ceremony to announce the decision of the Prime Minister recognized My Tho city as the urban of grade I under Tien Giang province.
This event saw Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Danh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Quang, Chairman of the Provincial Peoople’s Committee Le Van Huong, etc… and representatives of central department and agencies, provincial department and agencies, leaders of districts and towns as well as leaders and people of My Tho city.

At the ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Thanh Duc announced the decision of the Prime Minister recognized My Tho city as the urban of grade I under Tien Giang province. On behalf of the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of Construction Phan Thi My Linh gave the decision to My Tho city’s leaders.
Being the urban with the history of 335 years, My Tho was upgraded from town to city in 1967 by Central Committee Office for South Vietnam, recognised as the urban of grade II in 2005.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the My Tho city People’s Committee Nguyen Van Hong reported briefly the efforts of the Party, government and people of the city during the past 10 years to gradually realize the targets of urban upgrading. With the efforts and achievements in improving people's living standards, urban development, culture and socioeconomic development, My Tho was officially recognized as the urban grade I under Tien Giang province in accordance with Decision No 242/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister in May 2nd, 2016.
Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, member of the Politburo, has directed that My Tho city needed to be focused on implementing three grear issues in the near future to be worthy the position of the urban of grade I provincially. Firstly, My Tho city needed to focus on directing to achieve good results in a low number of criteria for system of the urban of the grade I. Secondly, My Tho should continue to steer its socioeconomic development to become a driving force of the provincial development. Thirdly, My Tho city had to pay attention to build a pure and strong political system, building a law-governed Vietnamese state of the people, by the people, etc…
