The State leader made the order while addressing a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 12 by the Ministry of Public Security to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s security force (1946-2016).
While hailing the exploits and efforts of the people’s security force over its seven-decade history, he noted that the country is facing both opportunities and challenges while the regional and international situation has seen numerous changes.
He also warned of risks from non-traditional security issues, including cyber warfare, migration waves, food security, energy security, environmental pollution, climate change, and territorial disputes in the East Sea.
He stressed that developments have created new need for the entire Party, people and army to maintain independence, national sovereignty, territorial integrity and political security as well as create a peaceful environment and favourable conditions for nation building.
He required the people’s security force to stimulate innovations, keep active in analysing the international situation, and improve its consultations for the Party and State on defending national security, sovereignty and territorial integration, and lifting Vietnam’s position in the international arena.
The force was also asked to continue to focus on ensuring security during the country’s major events, as well as protecting Party and State leaders and international delegations to Vietnam.
At the ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang presented the ‘Hero of People’s Armed Forces’ title to the General Security Department.
