PM Phuc elected deputy chairman of Council for National Defence and Security

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has been approved by the National Assembly (NA) to hold the position of deputy chairman of the Council for National Defence and Security.

On the morning of July 28, shortly after the debut of the new cabinet for the 2016-2020 term, NA deputies heard a proposal delivered by President Tran Dai Quang on the approval of the list of deputy chairpersons and members of the Council for National Defence and Security.

Under the proposal by President Quang, who is also chairman of the Council for National Defence and Security, the only member proposed for deputy chairman of the Council was PM Phuc.

NA deputies had a secret ballot to ratify the president’s proposal on the appointment of the deputy chairman and members of the Council.

According to the result of the vote, PM Phuc was elected deputy chairman of the Council with 98.78% of votes.

The NA also approved the appointment of members of the Council, including NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan with 98.79% votes, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh with 98.58% of votes, Minister of Defence General Ngo Xuan Lich with 98.58% of votes, and Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General To Lam with 98.58% of votes.

The NA also voted through a resolution to ratify the proposal of the president on the list of deputy chairman and members of the Council.
