Re-elected President Tran Dai Quang sworn in
Tran Dai Quang was sworn into office as the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the afternoon of July 25 after 98.18% of the total National Assembly (NA) deputies re-elected him to the position by secret ballot the morning of the same day.

Quang, who was elected State President on April 2, 2016 during the 11th session of the 13th NA, was nominated at the 14th legislature’s first session to stay in office for the new 2016-2021 tenure. He received ‘yes’ votes from 485 out of 487 NA deputies.
A resolution on the election of the new State President was also approved by 87.98% of the deputies at the session.
During the inauguration, President Tran Dai Quang vowed to be “absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the People and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and make concerted efforts to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, the State and the People”.
On behalf of the NA, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan declared the NA’s recognition of his oath.
Speaking after the inaugural ceremony, he expressed his thanks for the lawmakers for voting for him.
Acknowledging the huge honour and responsibility as the head of the State, who represents the country in both domestic and external affairs, and Chairman of the Council on National Defence and Security, he promised to uphold the nation’s traditions and experiences learnt from his predecessors, and devote himself to serving the Fatherland and the People.
He also pledged to co-ordinate with the NA, government and relevant agencies in exercising of the legislative, executive and judicial powers; actively contributing to building and improving the legal system, raising the effectiveness and efficiency of the socialist law-governed state of the people, by the people and for the people; while ensuring the building of revolutionary, regular, elite and modern armed forces in order to safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and create favourable condition for national development.
He will also solidify the national unity bloc; continue promoting the Doi Moi (Renewal) process; boost proactive integration; and elevate the country’s status in the international arena so as to help ensure peace, national independence, democracy, and social progress in the region and the world at large.
