Meeting held for retired Party and State senior cadres

The Party Central Committee’s Secretariat hosted a meeting in Hanoi on August 13 with retired Party and State senior cadres to inform them about the country’s socio-economic situation.

The meeting was chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, Dinh The Huynh.

Former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; former National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Van An, and nearly 150 delegates who are former Party, State, government and NA leaders and representatives from a number of central agencies also attended the meeting.

Delegates heard reports on the socio-economic situation after the 12th National Party Congress presented by Politburo member Dinh The Huynh, the East Sea situation in recent times by Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, and a report on the environmental incident caused by the Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Limited Company presented by Party Central Committee member and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha.

Speaking at the meeting, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong reaffirmed the determination of the entire Party, army and people in the protection of national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland, as well as maintaining political stability and a peaceful environment for national development in a fast and sustainable manner.

The Party chief also expressed thanks to former senior leaders for their attendance, adding that the meeting is not only a manifestation of admiration and respect for the previous generation of leaders, but also an opportunity to strengthen the relationship among them and promote the experience of former Party and State leaders for the cause of national development.
