The event was attended by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, Council Chairman Dinh The Huynh and current and former Party and State leaders.

In his celebratory remarks, Huynh recalled the council’s contributions to the Party’s theoretical work, especially renewed thoughts on socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam.

The council was established on October 30, 1996 to step up research on political theory while the country was implementing the Doi moi reforms.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong underlined the importance of theoretical work in helping the Politburo, the Party Central Committee and the Secretariat to formulate Party policies and guidelines.

In its twenty years of existence, the council has also fostered international cooperation with a number of Communist parties and ruling parties around the world.

The Party chief urged the council to continue reforming its mindset and operations to enhance the quality of its research, especially in its forecasts about major issues facing the country, global and regional trends and their impact on Vietnam.

On the occasion of the anniversary, President Tran Dai Quang awarded the Independence Order, first class, to the Central Council of Theory for its exceptional contributions to building socialism and safeguarding the motherland.
