Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Party and State, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh praised the outstanding achievements of officers and soldiers in Protection Division 180 in the course of its 60 years of its construction and development.

Especially in recent years, the division, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has ensured absolute safety for heads of state and international delegations from around the world visiting Vietnam, such as the US President, the Russian Prime Minister, the German Chancellor, the French Prime Minister and the delegates to the 14th APEC Summit.

To meet the requirements of the new period, Vice President Thinh urged the division to pay attention to training cadres and soldiers while continuing to innovate and apply high-tech equipment in its operations and to closely collaborate with relevant agencies and units to absolutely protect senior leaders, key objectives, major conferences and meetings and important festivals hosted by the Party and State, as well international delegations to the southern provinces and cities.

Almost 60 years ago, an armed security force protecting the branch of Vietnam’s revolutionary government in the South, namely C80 (later Division 180), the precursor to Protection Division 180, which belongs to the National Guard High Command under the Ministry of Public Security, was established in Thanh Binh Commune, Tan Bien District, Tay Ninh Province.

Through 60 years of its development, the division has achieved outstanding victories and has been honoured with a range of notable orders by the Party and State, including the Ho Chi Minh Order, two Military Exploit Orders, two Feat Orders and a third-class Fatherland Defence Order.

On the occasion of the anniversary, Vice President Thinh presented the second-class Fatherland Defence Order to the officers and soldiers of Division 180 in recognition of its achievements and contributions to the cause of the national revolution.

The Ho Chi Minh City authorities also awarded certificates of merit to a collective and 30 individuals in the division for their outstanding achievements in recent years.
