Vice President Thinh: country's future depends on youth

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh has emphasised that the country’s future depends on younger generations, particularly young scientists.

The Vice President made the statement at her meeting with 10 youths who have been honoured with the ‘Golden Globe’ Awards and 20 outstanding female students who gained the awards in the field of technology in Hanoi on December 29.

Speaking at the reception, she appreciated the youths’ efforts in gaining outstanding achievements in study and research, particularly their notable awards.

She said that after 30 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) process, Vietnam has developed greatly, creating more favourable conditions for younger generations to study and contribute to the country.

Vice President also praised the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union's Central Committee and Ministry of Science and Technology for launching the Golden Globe Awards to honour outstanding young people in the field of science and technology, promoting the cause of the country’s industrialisation and modernisation.

She also asked the two agencies to continue to maintain the awards and launch more awards in other fields; establish a fund to initially support research works; and become a bridge for the youths who have a passion for scientific research to meet and exchange; as well as be more active in calling for scientists and young people abroad to come back to the homeland.

The ‘Golden Globe’ Awards were initiated in 2003 to honour 10 outstanding young talents in information technology (IT). Since 2011, the awards were expanded to four fields: IT and communication, medicine and pharmaceuticals, the environment and biotechnology.

The 2016 Exemplary Female Students Awards not only covered the IT field, but also electronics and electrical and mechanical engineering.
