On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Quang Tri province's liberation, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 22 for veterans of the Army Corps 2, who took part in the fierce 81-day battle to protect the citadel and Quang Tri township from the US-backed army of the Republic of Vietnam in 1972.

The fight contributed to Vietnam’s success at the Paris Conference and was a prerequisite for the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, which liberated the South and reunified the country.
Speaking at the meeting, NA Chairwoman Ngan said that the Party, State, and people will forever remember the great contributions and sacrifices made by the patriotic heroes, martyrs, and war invalids’.
She also called on all sectors, branches, political and social organisations, and individuals to continue organising activities in response to the national movement to express gratitude towards war invalids, martyrs’ families and those who made contributions to the nation.
The NA Chairwoman also highly appreciated Army Corps 2’s achievements over the past 43 years of its development, particularly glorious feats gained during the resistance war for national salvation. She also hailed the efforts made by its staff in overcoming difficulties to fulfil assigned tasks in the new period.
Army Corps 2 has been honoured with many noble awards by the Party and State, such as the Hero of the People's Armed Forces title, the Ho Chi Minh Order, the Military Exploit Order, in addition to awards presented by the states of Laos and Cambodia.
