Grand ceremony marks Wounded and Fallen Soldiers' Day

A grand ceremony was held in Hanoi on July 27 to mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27, 1947 – 2017).

The event was attended by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; former Presidents Tran Duc Luong and Truong Tan Sang; Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; former NA Chairwomen Nguyen Van An and Nguyen Sinh Hung; President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Tran Thanh Man; among others.

Addressing the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong extended his deep gratitude to Vietnamese revolutionary veterans, heroic mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labour heroes, sick and wounded soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and revolutionary contributors around the country.

He emphasised that with great respect and gratitude, Vietnamese people always remember the great sacrifices of President Ho Chi Minh and fallen soldiers who devoted their lives to the nation and the people.

During the struggle for national independence and freedom, millions of soldiers dedicated their youth to the revolutionary cause, bravely fighting, sacrificing and withstanding lifelong disabilities, added the Party chief.

He affirmed that the Party, State and people always remember the great merits of the veteran revolutionaries, heroic martyrs, sick and wounded soldiers and revolutionary contributors.

The Party leader asked the Party committees, governments, Vietnam fatherland fronts at all levels and social organisations to continue to strengthen the dissemination of the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies related to caring for sick and wounded soldiers, in addition to the families of martyrs and revolutionary contributors.

He also called for organisations, agencies, officials, Party members, civil servants and people from all strata to actively and responsibly participate in campaigns to care for wounded and fallen soldiers and policy beneficiary families.

It is highly essential to promptly honour outstanding sick and wounded soldiers, families of martyrs and revolutionary contributors who overcame all difficulties by themselves to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development and join patriotic emulation movements, noted Party General Secretary Trong.

So far, more than nine million revolutionary contributors have benefited from preferential policies and over four million have been honoured with noble orders, medals, titles and awards.
