President expresses gratitude to national contributors on War Invalids and Martyrs' Day

President Tran Dai Quang held a meeting with a delegation of war invalids, relatives of martyrs, and role-models of the police force on July 11, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 – 2017).

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President praised the police force for its efforts and achievements in the 55 years since its establishment.

He also expressed his deep gratitude to the martyrs, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, war invalids, and relatives of martyrs, revolutionary contributors and police officials for devoting their lives to the national revolutionary cause.

President Quang said that under the leadership of the Party, State and Ministry of Public Security, the police force has maintained social security and order whilst cracking down on crimes which were recognised and appreciated by the Party and people.

The President emphasised that the police force will have to face many challenging tasks in the future to ensure national security and social order due to the unpredicted developments, both at home and abroad.

In the short term, the police force must ensure the security and safety for the APEC 2017 events and the APEC Week in Da Nang, scheduled for December this year.

Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve, Acting Director of the General Police Department, under the Ministry of Public Security, said that the police force has achieved a feat of arms in the fight against crime, making significant contributions to the cause of national construction and defence.

However, many police officials have been sacrificed in gaining these achievements. Since the renewal process, 162 policemen have laid down their lives in the struggle against crime, with more than 1,000 others injured or exposed to HIV, as well as thousands of police officers suffering damage to their health while on duty, Ve noted.

Ve added that their sacrifices and achievements were recognised and honoured by the Party and State.
