Vice President urges promoting prestige of village seniors

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh has expressed her belief that village elders, chiefs and people with prestige in the North West region would continue to promote their prestige and act as role models for other locals to follow, thus promoting the region’s socio-economic development.

The Vice State President made the suggestion while hosting a reception for a delegation of 86 prestigious village seniors and chiefs, from the North West’s ethnic minority community, in Hanoi on August 4.

Over the past few years, along with people across the country, ethnic minorities have actively participated in a range of patriotic emulation movements and there have been many typical examples of individuals and groups across many fields. To date, in the North West, local People's Committees have recognised nearly 23,000 prestigious people.

These individuals have played a pivotal role in propagandising the Party and State's guidelines and policies, as well as the patriotic emulation movement, among ethnic minority communities. They are also important factors in assisting the local authorities at all levels in propagating and mobilising ethnic minorities to participate in socio-economic development, ensuring national defence and security and preserving the great national unity bloc.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Thinh said that the localities in the Northwest region have recorded positive development both economically and socially and have maintained political stability, security and national defence. In particular, the contribution of each person, especially the village elders, village chiefs, typical Party members and people with prestige is particularly significant.

Affirming that the Party and the State always pay great attention to the social welfare issues of ethnic minorities throughout the country, including the North West, Vice President Thinh highly praised the spirit of overcoming all difficulties, escaping from poverty and promoting exemplified models among the ethnic minority people, thus contributing to the local and regional socio-economic development.

She suggested that the delegates continue to promote the cultural identity of each ethnic group, to actively disseminate information and raise public awareness on the Party and State's guidelines and policies, in addition to mobilising local people to actively participate in production, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, while fulfilling border security tasks and fighting against misleading allegations of hostile forces.

She requested that the relevant ministries and departments actively formulate projects and policies to focus on supporting and narrowing the development gap between the North-western localities and other provinces throughout the country.

On the occasion, Vice President Thinh presented 86 gifts to the delegation.
