APEC 2017 National Committee convenes ninth meeting

The APEC 2017 National Committee convened its ninth meeting in Hanoi on September 20th under the chair of its President Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Standing Vice President of the APEC 2017 National Committee, Standing Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and some ministry and agency officials reported the cooperation with localities hosting APEC events and that with other APEC economies, and preparatory work.

Deputy PM Minh reminded participants from 24 ministries and agencies that there are 46 days left for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang and Party and State leaders are very keen on how the preparations have been done.

He said in the context of complicated regional and global situations, the preparations must be quicker and more efficient to ensure the optimal success of the Week.

He stressed the need to prepare carefully the content of the event through close coordination with APEC member economies to achieve a consensus, meeting the common concern and that of Vietnam while creating the country’s hallmark.

Deputy PM Minh noted logistics preparations have made progress but the completion of facilities in service of the Week should be sped up, guaranteeing their quality and test run before the second fact-finding visit of APEC member economies in early October.

He underscored the cultural and popularization work as an opportunity for the country to promote its dynamism, innovation, and modernity, as well as the provision of technical assistance and facilities for local and foreign press-men to do their job.

He suggested the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and other relevant ministries and agencies to work closely in activities pertaining to enterprises with emphasis on delivering the Government’s determination to renew itself to become a facilitating government serving people and enterprises.

The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting will take place in central Da Nang city from November 6-11, expecting to welcome leaders from 21 member economies and around 10,000 local and international delegates.

Established in 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taiwan, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.

Vietnam joined APEC in 1998.
