NA discusses draft revised Law on Fisheries
The National Assembly discussed the draft revised the Law on Fisheries at its plenary session in Hanoi on October 27.

Several lawmakers stressed the need to establish centrally-run, municipal and provincial fisheries surveillance systems which will work to ensure fisheries law enforcement and defend sovereignty over waters inshore and offshore.
The work also aims to meet the requirements for a capable surveillance system to prevent illegal fishing of the European Union, one of the country’s major seafood traders.
Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission Pham Minh Chinh asked for reviewing activities of fisheries surveillance forces, thereby arranging their apparatus in line with Resolution No.18 of the 12th Party Central Committee on continuing to renovate and arrange the political system towards streamlined and efficient operations.
Many opinions suggested supplementing regulations regarding tax incentives, land, credit, epidemic diseases warning in aquaculture, modern equipment for offshore fishing in the draft law.
Lawmaker Trieu The Hung from the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong praised the significance of the State’s policy to support the purchase of insurance for offshore fishing vessels of individuals and organization which was stipulated in Article 6 of the draft law.
The deputies also looked into land lease for aquaculture, fund for fishery stock development, and co-management in fisheries stock protection, among others.
