President Quang, who is also head of the Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, made the request while attending a year-end meeting held in Hanoi, on December 29, by the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam to design the tasks for the procuracy sector in 2018.
The State leader hailed the achievements that the procuracy sector has gained over the past few years, saying that it has made significant contributions to fighting against crimes, protecting socialism and the people, as well as the legitimate interests of organisations and citizens.
The sector has also been appreciated for maintaining political security and social order; facilitating national socio-economic development and the country’s international integration process, and building a transparent, strong and democratic procuracy sector.
Noting that the year 2018 is a significant year in the implementation of the five-year socio-economic development plan of 2016-2020, he asked the sector to be active in making suggestions to the Party and State on handling cases of law violations, especially those relating to economic affairs and corruption.
The sector must closely co-ordinate with the investigation agencies, ministries, branches and localities in the trial and handling of corruption cases, he said, highlighting the importance of reclaiming all assets gained through corruption.
He also urged the sector to continue working with the relevant ministries and sectors in drafting documents on realising the revised Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code, while strengthening its cooperation with international procuracy agencies and organisations.
In 2017, the People’s Procuracy at all levels detected and prosecuted a total of 69,481 criminal cases. The sector strictly adjudicated serious economic violation and corruption cases.
In addition, myriads of solutions have been carried out to improve examination and handling of criminal cases. Enhancing inspection quality in other judicial activities and strengthening the Party organization within the sector have been prioritised as well.
