Tien Giang province prepares a clean water supply plan for eastern districts

ABO – On November 12, Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee (PPC) Le Van Huong chaired a meeting to prepare a clean water supply plan for eastern districts in the dry season 2019.

According to forecast, in 2019, the salinity situation will happen complicatedly, the maximum salinity in the dry season in 2019 is likely to occur in the middle of the end of March 2019, directly affecting the supply of water for people’s lives of My Tho city and other districts and towns in the eastern of the province. According to the report, Go Cong Tay has 94% of households using hygienic water; Tan Phu Dong has 93% of households using hygienic water; Go Cong Dong district has 78.87% of households using Dong Tam BOO water plant, etc…

At the meeting, leaders of the eastern districts suggested the PPC need to invest in upgrading, replacing and building more water supply systems in key areas of the districts, to supplement the water from the Dong Tam BOO water plant on the water supply stations in the eastern districts to ensure sufficient water supply in the dry season 2019.

According to Tien Giang Water Supply Co., Ltd, the demand for water in the eastern districts is 53,000 m3/day and the demand of My Tho city as 50.000m3 /day and night. In the dry season, the demand for water increases from 30% to 50%. Therefore, the company has proposed many solutions to ensure water supply for the eastern districts such as: upgrading pipeline HDPE from Phu Thanh water supply station to Phu Dong water supply station; to actively pump fresh water into ponds when changing the seasons; to build a water supply network to transport water from Dong Tam BOO water plant to rural areas of eastern districts, etc…

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong asked the departments to accelerate the construction of Go Cong superfluous pump stations, building a network of pipelines receiving clean water from the Dong Tam BOO water supply system to distribute to Go Cong town and Go Cong Dong district. At the same time, it is necessary to build transmission pipelines and link networks for rural stations; regularly monitoring the operation of water supply facilities to have a coordinated plan to provide water for people in the dry season 2019.

Chairman of the PPC also proposed the industries need to propagate and mobilize people to use economically water, dredging wells, clearing the inner canals to ensure the storage and loading of fresh water and build water tanks for the use of water in the dry season.
