Cai Lay town holds a meeting to mark the 56th anniversary of Ap Bac victory

ABO – On January 2, at Ap Bac victory relic, nearly 300 delegates represented leaders of departments, branches of Tien Giang province, Cai Lay town, Cai Lay district, Chau Thanh district with relatives of three steel soldiers and local people attended the meeting to mark the 56th anniversary of Ap Bac victory (January 2, 1963 - 2019)

At the ceremony, the delegates laid a wreath and offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the three steel soldiers monument and recalled the 56th year tradition of Ap Bac victory. This was the first major victory by the Vietnamese revolutionary army against US-backed Saigon armed forces.

It defeated an attack by 2,000 enemy troops, equipped with armoured vehicles, artillery and American helicopters.

The victory led to the bankruptcy of the enemy’s tactic of helicopter and armour transportation and stirred up a movement “To follow Ap Bac in killing enemy troops” across southern Vietnam.
