Thuong, who heads the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education and the Central Steering Committee for External Information Service, made the statement at a national conference to review the work in 2018 and deploy the tasks for next year in Hanoi on December 28.
He praised the efforts made by all levels, sectors, localities and units in stepping up their external information work and dissemination of information on the sea, islands, border demarcation, landmark planting and land border management, which, he said, have contributed significantly to creating a peaceful and stable environment and favourable conditions in service of national development.
Highlighting several major tasks to implement in 2019, the Politburo member insisted on continuously renovating thoughts and raising awareness of the importance and challenges of the external information service in the new context.
He urged for strengthening the cohesion between the Party, State and people-to-people diplomacy, regularly renovating the contents and methods of external information activities, facilitating positive information on the Vietnamese culture, landscape and people, and taking advantage of the support from the overseas Vietnamese community and international friends.
It is necessary to enhance the capabilities of analysing, forecasting and monitoring international and domestic situations, build specific scenarios and measures to orientate communication at each level, strongly combat sabotage by hostile and reactionary forces, ensure a peaceful environment for development associated with protecting national territorial sovereignty and enhance the position and international prestige of Vietnam, Thuong said.
He suggested strengthening the application of information technology and modern means of media, promptly putting the web portal on external information service of the Steering Committee into operation, strengthening communication in foreign languages and the persuasiveness and suitability in terms of languages and customs to enhance the efficiency of the communication work.
The Central Steering Committee for External Information Service was asked to improve its operational quality, in addition to promoting the role of key foreign affairs media agencies and paying attention to training human resources for the field.
At the conference, the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education presented certificates of merit to 28 collectives and nine individuals with exceptional performances in the external information service and communication on the sea, island, border demarcation, landmark planting and land border management in 2018.
