Grand ceremony commemorates 130th birthday of late NA chairman Bui Bang Doan
ABO/NDO – A grand ceremony and special programme were held in Hanoi on September 16 to mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of former National Assembly (NA) Chairman Bui Bang Doan (September 19, 1889-2019).

Speaking at the celebration, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasised that Bui Bang Doan (1889-1955), former Head of the Standing Committee of the NA of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now Chairman of the NA of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), was an ardent patriot, a diligent leader of the NA and the Government, a close partner of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, and an outstanding child of his motherland Hanoi.
“With a deep patriotism, from the time he was an official under the reign of Nguyen Dynasty, until he became the key leader of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Bui Bang Doan always had high spirits while dedicating his life for the country, for the people and for the great cause of the nation. He is perfect example of a Vietnamese intellectuals from patriotism helping towards to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation,” emphasised the top legislator.
Patriotic Bui Bang Doan was born in 1889 into a Confucian family in Lien Bat commune, Ung Hoa district, Ha Dong province (now Hanoi). From a famous and honest mandarin of the feudal court, Bui Bang Doan had voluntarily joined the revolutionary government. On January 6, 1946, at the first National Assembly election held nationwide, Bui Bang Doan – with the title of an advisor to President Ho Chi Minh and the head of the Special Inspectorate of the provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam – was introduced by President Ho Chi Minh to elect to the NA in its first term. Specifically, he was elected to the NA deputy delegation of Ha Dong province with a very high number votes.
At the first session of the first NA, Bui Bang Doan was elected as an official member of the NA Standing Committee. At the first NA’s second session on November 1946, he was elected Chairman of the NA Standing Committee (now Chairman of the NA). In this important position, Bui Bang Doan promoted his role and responsibility to make great contributions to the legislative activities, especially the gathering of the national unity bloc to join the resistance against the French colonists. Bui Bang Doan always upheld the spirit of bringing talents and dedication to serve the Fatherland, the people and the revolution, taking the supreme benefit of the Fatherland and the people as his ideal of life.
In recognition of his great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, the Party and the State have awarded him the first-class Resistance Order and the first-class Independence Order. Hanoi has named a road after his name to commemorate his contributions.
NA Chairwoman Ngan stated that starting from the wish to put the country above all, Bui Bang Doan, a high-ranking official in the apparatus of the Nguyen feudal court, overcame prejudices to join the revolutionary government. With enthusiasm, patriotism and the love for the people, as well as the admiration for the virtue of President Ho Chi Minh, he brought all his strength and talent to serve the Fatherland and the nation.
The 130th anniversary of his birth was an opportunity to express the gratitude and remembrance to his great contributions to the people and the revolution. Bui Bang Doan is an exemplary example of a true patriot, who devoted his whole life to serve the Fatherland and the people.
His spirit and sacrifice is a shining example for NA deputies, Party members and the whole people to study, NA Chairwoman Ngan said, adding that Bui Bang Doan's example has an important contribution to fostering ideals and revolutionary traditions for cadres, Party members and people, especially the young generation in the nation-building process.
Following the example of Bui Bang Doan, in all activities and in each working position, each cadre, Party member and all of the people always put the interests of the country, the people and the Party above all, while strengthening unity to maintain the national independence and freedom for the well-being of the people.
Delegates at the event enjoyed art performances re-enacting Bui Bang Doan's life and career. They also reviewed his great contributions to the revolution and his care for the lives of the people, vowing to follow in his example to wholeheartedly dedicate to the people and the country.
