ABO/NDO – The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) Central Committee, in coordination with the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Capital Regiment (308th Infantry Division), launched a tree planting festival in Hanoi on February 20, in the presence of Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission Truong Thi Mai.
Addressing the event, Mai stated that since it was launched by Uncle Ho in 1959, the tree planting campaign has become a fine tradition of the entire Party, people and army every spring, aimed at maintaining a healthy environment for the people and future generations.

The protection of the ecological environment plays an important role in the country’s sustainable development strategy and was also highlighted in the documents submitted to the 13th National Party Congress, she said.
Mai asked the VWU to continue coordinating with armed forces nationwide and calling on its members to actively respond to the tree planting and forest protection movements, with the spirit of ‘every person grows trees, every family grows trees’.
President of the VWU Central Committee Ha Thi Nga said that on the occasion, the union had mobilised non-state funding sources to plant more than 2,200 trees at the Capital Regiment.
With the spirit of ‘each woman – one green tree’, in the period 2021-2025, all-level VWU branches will call on officials, members and women to grow 20 million new trees or more at industrial parks, urban areas, export processing zones, residential areas, cultural and historical sites, memorial areas, and traffic corridors, contributing to realising the goal of planting one billion trees in five years as initiated by the Prime Minister, Nga noted.
She affirmed that each woman will be an active communicator, raising awareness among their family members and the community at large about the significance of the spring tree planting campaign as well as the remarkable role, comprehensive and long-term benefits, and economic and human values of tree planting and afforestation.
